Sabine Wallops Winona 102-24

Cardinals roll up a huge win that should move the needle on the state rankings.

LIBERTY CITY, TX., Jan. 22, 2009 -- Leaving no doubt as to who owns the first place spot in 18-2A basketball, and perhaps sending a signal to TABC pollsters, the Sabine Cardinals tonight ran up a 78 point surplus in their win over a struggling Winona Wildcat squad.

Holding Winona to single digit team scoring in all four quarters, all five Sabine starters went wild, each netting double digit totals in the lop-sided contest. Colton Kirk led the Cardinals with 25 points, trailed closely by Jacob Kenna with 22.

Even with all the offense, the real story of the game was Sabine's domination of the floor, and rebounding under the basket.

Kirk and Kenna combined for 21 steals, and Cardinals Lie'Quan Byrd and Tyler Woodrell teamed up for 22 rebounds. Woodrell also blocked 5 shots.

With the victory, 4th ranked Sabine extended their winning streak to 14 games, and improved their record to 26-3 on the year, and 7-0 in district.
