New Diana Rolls By Harleton 46-29

Eagles extend a ten point halftime lead to a 17 point win, holding Harleton to just four points in the fourth quarter.

DIANA, TX., Jan. 23, 2009 -- New Diana, coming off a win over Winona Tuesday, opened the game with a 4-2 district record, and was aiming to hang on to a third place spot in 18-2A. Trailing Sabine and White Oak, a third place finish would give the Eagles a playoff berth.

Harleton never gave them much cause for concern, as the Eagles outscored the Wildcats in all four quarters. Defense is key in Coach David Schubert's scheme, and the Eagles held Harleton to single digit scores in three of the four quarters.

Running a motion offense, Schubert got solid production from seniors Eric Dixon, Shay Bradley and Bo Yarbrough. Dixon led the Eagles with 12 points, followed by Bradley with 11 and Yarborough with 9.

Tanner Beatty led the Wildcat scorers with 8.

New Diana unlocked the Wildcat's 2-3 zone early, and lead by 14 points late in the second, when a three pointer by Harleton's Jacob Holmes, with a minute left, cut the Eagle's halftime lead to 11 points.

In the second half, New Diana slowed the tempo of the game down, burning time and denying Harleton the chance to score. The Wildcats scored only four points in the last frame.
