Local Fishing Reports - Jan. 22, 2009

Bass and Crappie fishing has been fair to good. Crappie are being taken deep on minnows, while bass are falling for jigs and spinners fished fairly shallow

Excerpts from the TPWD report follow:

LAKE O' THE PINES
Water stained; 47-53 degrees; 0.51' high. Black bass are slow to fair on Texas rigs, weightless flukes or 5" Yum Dingers and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and jigs. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers and cut shad. Bream are fair on red wigglers.

BOB SANDLIN
Water fairly clear; 47-54 degrees; 0.37' low. Black bass are fair on watermelon/red Brush Hogs fished in 6-8 feet. White bass are fair on small jigging spoons in the major creek channels. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows fished over brush piles in 18 - 23 feet. Catfish are good on chicken livers fished around cormorant roost.

CADDO
Water off color; 48-54 degrees; 0.55' high. Black bass are fair on black jigs, white spinnerbaits and tubes around cypress trees in 2-4 feet. Crappie are good on shiners and jigs in the main channel. Catfish are fair on limblines.

FORK
Water lightly stained; 48-54 degrees; 0.81' low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps, medium diving crankbaits, suspending baits and firetiger spinnerbaits worked along main lake grass and around boathouses. Crappie are fair on minnows in 25-30 feet on deeper flats. Catfish are good on prepared baits in 25-30 feet.
