Daingerfield Finishes The Job, Beats Cisco In 2A Championship

Daingerfield's Tyler Boyd threw for two touchdowns, and rushed for another this afternoon as the Tigers defeated Cisco 26-8 in the state 2A DivII championship.

Perhaps anticipating that Cisco had over prepared for the ground threat that RB Koko Smith brings to the field, Daingerfield Coach Barry Bowman leaned on the arm of QB Tyler Boyd for the win.

After a scoreless first quarter, Boyd threw two touchdown strikes in the second, both to WR Chris Jones, and ran a third in himself, giving Daingerfield a 19-0 halftime lead.

Boyd was 11 of 15 on the day, racking up 220 and two touchdowns. Jones had 134 yards on five catches.

The next score came from Koko Smith, who had 95 yards and one touchdown in the game. He scored on a 3 yard run in the fourth quarter, widening the margin 26-0.

Cisco's only trip into the end zone came on a drive mounted in the last two minutes of the game, and was capped off by a short run over the middle by RB Robert Medina. The Lobo's RB Vegas Hastings then ran the 2 point conversion in, finishing the scoring at 26-8.

Medina had 51 yards on 9 carries, and Hastings tallied up 10n carries for 49 yards.

Lobo QB Josh Bridges went 4 for 10 , passing for 81 yards.

Daingerfield wins it's fourth state championship, while Cisco loss in the finals is it's third in three years.
