New Diana Tops Harmony

Eric Dixon's long distance display leads New Diana to win, 80-73.

BIG SANDY, TX., Jan. 27, 2009 -- The last time these two Eagle squads met, New Diana won a nail biter in the last minute, 47-44. Tuesday, Harmony didn't let New Diana off that easy.

The contest was nip-and-tuck from the opening buzzer. New Diana led by two at the end of the first frame, and Harmony had cut that lead to just one point at the end of the half, 36-35.

They followed the same pattern for the second half, with a four point Diana lead of 54-50 at the end of the third quarter vanishing to a tie, 67-67 at the end of four periods of play.

But Harmony was unable to match Diana in overtime play, being outscored 13-6 in the extra frame to seal a New Diana win, 80-73.

Almost half of New Diana's points came from senior guard Eric Dixon, who connected on five three pointers, and went 7 of 11 from the free throw line on his way to an eye-popping 34 point night. Dixon was followed by teammate Andy Hounsel with 12 points. Hounsel also made Harmony pay for their fouls, going 6 for 7 on free throws.
