Gilmer and Longview Advance In State Football Playoffs

Buckeyes and Lobos both stay alive in State football title quests.

In the Class 4A, Div 1, Region 1 Regional playoffs, Longview downed Dallas-Carter 35-20. Longview's record climbs to (11-2).

The Lobo's will next face Hewitt Midway, with a record of (12-1), in Texas Stadium on Dec. 6th.

Gilmer, battling an unfamiliar West Orange - Stark team, won it's Class 3A, Div 2, Region 3 Regional playoff game 35-23. The Buckeye's now sport a (12-1) record.

They will next face the Carthage Bulldogs (11-2) in the State Quarterfinals. Carthage beat Rockdale 55-28 this weekend in their own playoff match-up. The date and location of the game have not been announced.

A quick look at common opponents this year suggest the Buckeyes and Bulldogs may be closely matched. Both Gilmer and Carthage beat Dibol, Jasper, and Tatum this year, and both lost to Kilgore.

Versus Jasper, Gilmer won 56-28, and Carthage defeated them 56-21.

Opposing Dibol, Carthage beat the Lumberjacks 62-28, and two weeks later, the Buckeyes embarrassed them 54-0.

Gilmer dropped Tatum in the last regular season game 48-14. The next week, Carthage faced them in their first playoff game, and won 62-20.

Kilgore had both teams figured out this year, first winning over Carthage 33-20. Three games later, the Buckeyes lost to them 28-14.
