Hughes Springs Takes 3rd Place In Quitman Tourney
Hughes Springs gets the best of a physical, fast paced match against New Diana, posting a 52-43 win.
In a see-saw match featuring two squads who move the ball around well, New Diana fell victim to a late game time crunch.
In the opening quarter, the Mustangs bucketed 15 points, and allowed the Eagles to score just 9.
The game's momentum shifted in the second quarter, and the Eagles rolled up 20 points while allowing Hughes Springs only 4.
After the break, Hughes Springs came out of the lockers smarting from the second quarter thumping, and returned the favor by outscoring New Diana 14-8.
With 3:00 left in the fourth, the Mustangs led 43-37. New Diana went to a press defense, hoping to force Hughes Springs into turning over the ball. But the Eagles ran into a string of fouls that the Mustangs took advantage of.

New Diana's Shay Bradley was named tournament alternate.
Both teams open district play in their next game.
Hughes Springs will visit Queen City on Tuesday, Jan. 6th, and New Diana hosts Harmony Thursday, the 2nd.
